Current Role: Lead for Learning & Development: Mandatory & Essential Skills.

My current role consists of reviewing and maintaining the Mandatory and Essential skills training requirements of all staff of all specialities and grades across the organisation. I have also been working with NHSE and other training leads to revise the National Training Framework and training solutions.

My career journey

I am a qualified Sick Childrens nurse and proud of my profession, with over 23 years experience. I trained at Great Ormond Street Childrens Hospital and have enjoyed the opportunity to experience many different roles throughout my career including Ward Manager, Clinical Nurse Specialist in the community, Practice Development Nurse, Lead Nurse for the North Thames Paediatric Network, and more recently went back to clinical work as Matron for Childrens services before moving back into education which is my passion.

I have developed and delivered several clinical and leadership courses, two of which were accredited by Higher Education Institutions and was a visiting Lecturer also.

What does good leadership mean to you and how has this inspired your career?

My leadership journey really began when I was a band 6 nurse working on a Paediatric ward. I was always interested in supporting others and service development and guiding the team towards new initiatives and positive change. This has continued throughout my career in all of my roles. I have enjoyed teaching others leadership skills also and developed the Band 5 and Band 6 Nurse Leadership courses run within the organisation.

I have mentored, coached and supported many staff, both qualified and students throughout my career and take great satisfaction from watching others reach their full potential.

I have been fortunate to have had some great leaders that have inspired me throughout my career and the opportunity to pass this on is a great privilege and essential for the survival of amazing leaders within nursing.
