Introduction
Welcome to the Babies, Children and Young People (BCYP) Nurse Mentoring Network.
This is a space for us all to benefit from the vast range of professional development opportunities available in our community. Our aim is to create an open platform where individuals can give and receive support to one another. We are building a community that recognises the leadership skills we have collectively and individually and sharing this knowledge and experience will contribute to greater development opportunities for all.
It is widely recognised that access to mentoring and leadership development opportunities relies on many factors: having the relevant contacts available, overcoming barriers to access, building confidence in knowing what support and development advice you might need and knowing who might be most suitable to offer this support and having a centralised platform for such support to be accessed. The overarching goal of this platform is to have a community that provides you with ideas and guidance on where you may like to take the next steps in your career and help you access to relevant opportunities that exist across the community.
Our community is built upon access to opportunities rather than your current job role. You don't need to be in a senior role to offer support to a colleague if you have those skills, recognising and embracing the fact that everyone has something to offer. Too often we don't recognise what we have to give or have the confidence to promote how we can support people. What might seem a small offer can have a huge impact on someone else’s access to growth opportunities.
Additionally, this network can also build your proficiency in helping others to develop, which in turn hones your leadership capabilities – a win – win situation.
