Based just outside Lampeter, Bird Farm is a 10 acre off grid smallholding. We have a small herd of alpacas, ponies, two donkeys, hens and ducks, as well as a myriad of wildlife – the songbirds in particular favour our land. Emma and Rodney moved to West Wales in 2013 and established Bird Farm. Emma is a qualified nursery nurse and hairdresser, and Rodney hails from a farming background and has over 25 years of experience working in all aspects of groundwork. Emma and Rodney have created Bird Farm while living with the challenges of Rodney’s cancer diagnosis, made 12 years ago.
Bird Farm is a place of sanctuary for all who visit and spend time here. We have a cosy craft studio in the beautifully converted barn, with plenty of tea and cake to share! We know from our own experiences the value of spending time outside in nature, with animals, growing food or crafting with willow or fibre, and research into care farming has now clearly demonstrated that people may benefit from improved mental health and well-being, improved mood and self-esteem, improved physical health and independence as well as making links with their community – building community in fact!
Wildflowers is a service also based at Bird Farm. Founded and run by Claire, a Registered Adult Nurse, Wildflowers aims to enrich the lives of others through the use of story and in the sharing and recording of life stories, spending time in nature, and in forging therapeutic relationships that support not only the cared for, but their carers and loved ones too.
We are also able to access and offer complimentary therapies such as reflexology and reiki, and you can even have your hair done by Emma when you visit!
Together Bird Farm and Wildflowers are able to offer services and support which enhances and enriches lives and wellbeing. All services and support are tailored to suit the needs of each client or group. We are open to anybody who may benefit from attending, and this may include (but is not limited to) those experiencing mental health issues, people with learning difficulties or additional needs, those with dementia, those with physical health issues, those with palliative care needs, carers, families needing additional support, and people who are not currently employed, studying or in a training programme.
We offer either individual or group support, and clients are welcome to bring their own support too. Funding requirements will be calculated according to the individual care package. Our contact details are below.
