Support for those who care
You may help take care of a loved one, neighbour or friend, without thinking of yourself as a carer. We recognise your contribution and commitment and would like to offer you support through our Carers’ Forums.
- As well as meeting others in similar situations, you will have an opportunity to raise any issues you may have about your caring role. You will be warmly welcomed at the meetings, so please come along and find out about the advice and help available to you.
- Carers Forums are organised at venues across Cornwall by Kernow Carers Service, and are a free service for unpaid carers to give them an opportunity to discuss the issues they face and have their voices heard in a welcoming and confidential environment, with others facing similar problems.
- Many people are unaware of the help they can get because they don’t recognise themselves as carers as they look after a family member or friend. Staff from Kernow Carers Service will be at the meetings, and will be able to give help and advice to carers, including making referrals to Carer Support Workers (CSWs) who work directly with individual carers to help them with such things as accessing benefits and services.
Where issues can’t be resolved at the meeting or by a CSW, we attend various other Groups such as the Carers Partnership Board and Healthwatch Cornwall where we are able to highlight any concerns our members may have in regard to their caring role.
